Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

SCHOOL DAY AND TIMES
● Kindergarten through grade 5: 8:00-2:15 p.m.
● Pre-Kindergarten: 8:30-2:45 (No school on Wednesday)
● Early dismissal: 11:30 a.m. (for K-5). *No Pre-K

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • Arrival Times
    • Grades K–5: Students may arrive beginning at 7:50 a.m. (school starts at 8:00 a.m.).
    • Pre-Kindergarten: Students may arrive beginning at 8:20 a.m. (school starts at 8:30 a.m.).
  • Drop-Off Procedures
    • Grades K–5: Please use the “live” drop-off area located at the entrance of the large parking lot.
    • Pre-Kindergarten: Parents/guardians may use the front circular driveway as a live drop-off area. This driveway is reserved for preschool drop-off and buses only.
       
  • Supervision
    • Staff are on duty to assist families 7:50–8:00 a.m. for grades K–5.
    • Children should not be dropped off before staff are present.
       
  • Tardy Students
    • Any student arriving after the start of the school day must be escorted to the main office (front entrance) by a parent/guardian.
       
  • Before & After-School Programs
     
    • Families in need of before- or after-school care may visit the North Reading Public Schools website (Family and Community tab → “Student Care”).

Pre-K 

  • Drop-off: Parents/guardians may use the front driveway (stop at the preschool sign). Doors lock at 8:30 a.m. Students enter through the Early Childhood wing doors (beyond the gym at the front of the school).

 

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

  • Every student must have a dismissal plan on file to ensure safety. Please use the link provided to communicate your child’s dismissal procedure.
  • Dismissal Options: Bus, Pick-up, or Walker.

Walkers

  • Released from the cafeteria door.

Pick-Ups

  • Grades K–2: Dismissed at the double doors next to the cafeteria (front of the school).
  • Grades 3–5: Dismissed at the gymnasium double doors.
     

Bus Riders

  • Students must have their bus pass attached and visible on their backpacks.
  • Bus changes are not permitted—students are assigned to buses based on seat availability.

After School Care

  • The after-school program will again be offered on-site at the Little School through the Burbank (Reading) YMCA for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5.

Pre-K

  • Dismissal: Students will be dismissed from the double doors at the rear of the school (large parking lot, near the softball fields). Please park in legal, marked spaces only.
  • Please note: After-school care is not available for Pre-Kindergarten students.
     

Additional Reminders

  • Tardy students must be escorted to the main entrance (front doors) by a parent/guardian.
  • School van parking spots are reserved—do not park in them.
  • Parents/guardians entering the building must park in the lot (not the driveway) and enter through the main doors to check in at the office.

TRAFFIC & PARKING GUIDELINES

  • Follow all posted signs: No Parking, Fire Lane, No Standing/No Stopping, and Van Parking Only.
  • Barberry Road is one-way during the hours of 7:00–9:00 a.m. and 2:30–3:30 p.m.
  • All traffic must enter from Southwick Road and exit via Oakland Road.
  • The school zone speed limit is 20 MPH, including the surrounding neighborhood streets.
  • Parking is strictly prohibited in Fire Lanes (marked with yellow curbs and “Fire Lane” signage) at all times—this applies 24/7, whether for school, sporting events, or other activities.
  • Please use caution and follow all traffic laws when driving on or near school property.
